Project in Detail

A mission with long‑term benefits

We’re going to drive up an active volcano.
300km away from any civilization.
4 weeks without food or electricity supply.

the project

PEAK EVOLUTION emerged from our idea to build an electric multipurpose vehicle for municipal services, agriculture and the mining industry. We analysed the available technology and the economical factors of electric vehicles and decided that we will be able to build an economically competitive and technically superior product.
To follow this vision we founded the company DDP Innovation in 2018.
As core innovation we developed a new electric drive system under the name TERREN  wich is especially suited for heavy off-road machinery. More details about the technology can be found on our Company website. (www.ddp-innovation.ch)

As we are operating in a niche market we had to find a way to get the attention of equipment manufacturers and customers in this fast moving e-mobility world.
As a combination of our love for mountaineering and our intention to showcase the capability of our technology we created the idea to beat the current altitude world record for land vehicles.
In previous record attempts, which were always carried out with combustion engines, the greatest difficulties were the demanding terrain, the physical and psychological strain on the team, the loss of engine power at altitude and the limited fuel supply.

As seasoned mountaineers, we climbed Ojos del Salado for the first time in 2019. We wanted to explore the rocky terrain and experience the high altitude. We are now confident to have found a drivable route for the truck and know we can cope with the low oxygen level and the extreme freezing conditions. The TERREN drive system of PEAK EVOLUTION record-breaking vehicle has no loss of power at altitude. The energy is generated independently from the power grid by a mobile solar system. This allows an unlimited operating radius. Find out how the system works here.
The expedition vehicle is, in contrast to most other projects promoting sustainable technologies, not a custom-made product without timely benefits. After the expedition, the vehicle can be used and tested directly in real operation with only minor adjustments. This makes Peak Evolution a contemporary expedition with practical benefits.
